Art is Fun! Who Needs Teeth When You Have Charcoal!

Children love art because they have no expectation of perfection. It is the creating that absorbs them. Art is fun because it is between you and what you are creating. To inspire a child, you just ask them to make a greeting card with some purpose whether it is a birthday or get well card they jump in excited to start drawing or painting. As we get older and hear criticism many of us who love art may become intimidated. Others like me hear our own call to create and never stop trying to improve.

There is no such thing as perfection only a striving for it. Remember the old joke, “A pedestrian on 57th Street sees a musician getting out of a cab and asks, “How do you get to Carnegie Hall?” Without pause, the artist replies wearily, “Practice.”

Practice is the key. If you look at it as a chore you will be defeated. If you look at it as a fun, life enriching experience you will have learned the secret of every great artist. Welcome to the world of fun!
